A key is laden with meanings. It can be a common object that we use everyday. A small object that unclocks and locks - doors and chests. That keeps some things safe, or away from other people hands and eyes. It has a rich symbolism and appears in phrases. It lends itself to paradox - it both imprisons and makes free.
